Trick Pony...

When I was little I would sit on a corral gate and watch my Grandpa Wood train his horses. He was nothing short of magical. He could get a huge, stubborn mammal to cross step, prance, bow and do a whole variety of "unicorn-like tricks" for his little audience of dirty grand kids and their mamas. And there were certain horses that he knew displayed a propensity for showmanship... "trick ponies" if you will. And those were the most fun to watch.

Well, Hello There Little Trick Pony...

Fast forward to present time when most evenings as the boys are winding down and chugging milk, we often watch a Baby Einstein video in the play room. Kael's very favorite for months on end was "Baby's First Moves" and then he graduated to bigger and better things. I popped it in the DVD player the other day after a very long absence from our usual rotation and it instantly became a hit with Dax who was enraptured from the opening song.

Kael's latest trick is creating sidewalk art.
And a trick that I am still amazed at is his ability to share with his brother.
Cue Mama Tears...

So, Big Brother, knowing he already had this one totally mastered became a wild and giddy performing trick pony. It was hilarious. At one point the video asks all the babies of the land, "Can you wave?" Followed by a succession of action related questions like, "Can you clap? Can you spin? Can you Twist?"

This is a new trick - beheading flowers. Not my fav...

Kaelster became a flying, flinging little ball of motion on his proverbial stage. He was prancing and stomping and clapping and flipping about. Soon we realized he remembered the entire succession of "baby moves" and would perform before the narrator could even ask the questions.

Yet another trick, "borrowing" the neighbor girl's stroller for a spin.

He was as proud as punch and literally beamed from ear-to-ear as he showed off his mad skills in his own little parade. If he could have, he would have tossed his mane and kicked up some dust... Because our Big K, is one stellar trick pony with a tendency to eat up every little moment in the spotlight.

Blowing Bubbles - a trick that is still being perfected...

And I for one, love to see all the tricks my big boy has learned and continues to pull out of his magic hat. And I could perch myself on the corral gate of his life and watch all those "unicorn like tricks" for hours on end. :)
