And Then He Was Two...

I can't even.  All the old adages about time slipping by at mach speed don't even do my feelings justice on this one.  I cannot believe our baby Boone is TWO.
I can tell you that Boone has provided us with a full TWO years of smiles, love and giggles - enough to fuel us into TWO thousand eternities.  He lights up every room he enters and softens all the hearts with his big baby blues and long lashes.  He waves and smiles to all the people of the land and he has impeccable manners -- not even kidding.  He gives the sweetest "Tain- Choos" your ears have ever heard.
When we found out Boone was coming I was shocked and thrilled.  But I always felt an underlying hint of worry that he would be too far removed from the epicenter of boys to have the special bond that they share.  I was so wrong.  If anything he has caused the magnets within each of them to draw closer and more powerfully, as they relive the silly little quirks of toddlerhood with him, and celebrate all his victories as he grows more and more like the herd.
And boy does Booner Bear know he is the center of attention.  He can command his crowd of brothers like a world class entertainer and literally has them eating out of his tiny little hands.  :)  They crack up when they teach him a new trick and he reciprocates their enthusiasm and does it again and again until everyone is in fits of laughter.  He gets it - this whole, "Caboose baby trumps all" gig.  He is masterful at it.  Our very own loving Boss Baby, he is.
Boone gets dragged around the world in a day, it seems.  But truly, he handles it like a seasoned vet.  He dances in his car seat to the music and laughs at jokes he doesn't understand, but doesn't want to be left out of.  He carries a tiny back pack full of snacks and balls and tiny little toy figurines of every variety, because you never know when you might have some time to kill in the car pool pick up line, and you should always be prepared.
Boone is determined to keep up with his wolf pack.  He walked at 9 months.  He rode a scooter at a year.  And currently he alternates between shooting hoops in the driveway and riding a balance bike around the trails depending on his mood.
This weekend, as we celebrate him turning TWO, we will recount the details from the day he was born.  We'll look at pictures and remember highlights from his story.  But mostly, we'll hold him close and thank our lucky stars that our Boone came to be, and that he is ours.
I think I've mentioned it before, but Merriam Webster defines "boon" as follows:
A well timed benefit: a favor: a blessing.
We could not agree more.
Oh how you are loved, little man.  These TWO years have been grand.  We love you.  And because of your timely entrance into our lives, we love all our babies with a deeper, purer love that is so infinite it cannot be shaken.
Happy Happy Second Birthday to our Booner Boy.
